Alumni of the College of Media have distinguished themselves in their professions in numerous ways. A few have been awarded the highest honors for their work, and among those are the following:

Pulitzer Prize
  • Barry Bearak, MS '75 JOURN
    2002 for International Reporting for his coverage of daily life in war-ravaged Afghanistan
  • Roger Ebert, '64 JOURN
    1975 for Criticism (first ever awarded in this category) for his work as a film critic for the Chicago Sun-Times
  • Paul Ingrassia, '72 JOURN
    1993 for Beat Reporting for coverage fo management turmoil at General Motors Corp.
  • James B. "Scotty" Reston, '32 JOURN
    1945 and 1957 as a reporter for the New York Times
  • Abe Zaidan, '53 JOURN
    1971 for Beat Reporting as a staff member of the Akron (Ohio) Beacon Journal
Peabody Award
  • Rick Sallinger, '71 ADV, MS '72 ADV
    2006 as a reporter for KCNC-TV Denver for his series of television broadcast investigative reports on improprieties in U.S. Army recruiting
