College of Media 2013 Convocation Ceremony

Eligibility to participate
Convocation is not a certification of graduation, but rather a ceremony that celebrates your academic achievements. You must satisfy all of your degree requirements before you officially graduate and receive your diploma.
You are eligible to participate in Convocation 2013 if you graduated in August 2012 or December 2012 or expect to finish your degree requirements this May 2013. If you have 13 or fewer hours remaining and expect to complete your Bachelor’s degree or 8 or fewer hours remaining to complete your Master’s degree in August 2013, you may participate in Commencement; however, your name will not appear in the campuswide Commencement program.
Registering for Convocation
Undergraduate:In order to participate in graduation you must first complete the College of Media Senior Survey.
After completing the survey, you will be given a website to register for convocation. The deadline to register is April 11, 2013.
Graduate: You received an email about registering. If you do not have that email, please contact media-ssc@illinois.edu or call (217)244-4329.

Convocation tickets
Tickets are not required for admission to George Huff Hall for the College of Media's Convocation Ceremony.
Regalia (Cap and Gown) Ordering Information
Approved regalia must be worn by all participants in the College convocation and campuswide commencement ceremony. Herff Jones is the supplier of rental regalia for our ceremonies. Ordering and pricing information can be found on the Herff Jones website. Graduates will be responsible for ordering and for picking up their regalia. The deadline to order your cap and gown is April 11.
Distribution of ordered caps and gowns will be at the ARC on the following days:
Thursday, May 9 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Friday, May 10 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Saturday, May 11 8:00 a.m. to Noon
Sunday, May 12 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
Returning Academic Attire (Regalia)
You get to keep your tassel and the stole of gratitude. You must return your cap and gown to the ARC at the following times:
Saturday, May 11 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Sunday, May 12 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Monday, May 13 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
If you miss these drop off times, you will be charged $5.00 a day and will need to return your academic attire to the Illini Union Bookstore.
You can return your attire to the bookstore between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. starting Tuesday, May 14 through Friday, May 17.
Honor Cords
Candidates for College honors and recognition as James Scholars can purchase honor cords. Each honor cord costs $5.00 and can be purchased by credit card from this website. You can pick up your honor cords from 18 Gregory Hall starting April 15. These honor cords are yours to keep.
When and Where to be for College of Media Convocation
If you have a problem with regalia on Saturday, May 11, please report to the ARC at 8:00 a.m. If you wait until 11:30 a.m. we won’t be able to help you.
Check In: Graduates report to registration tables at the entrance of the track area in the Armory beginning at 11:30 a.m. and no later than 12:45 p.m. Pick up and check the information cards given to you at the check in table. Be sure all information is accurate. Keep these cards with you until you reach the stage at George Huff Hall. You will hand the cards to the reader on stage. Once you have checked in, please move to correct areas for procession lines. The number on the bottom right corner of your card indicates where you need to be in line.
Photography during the Ceremony
A professional photographer will take pictures of each graduate after they receive their diploma on stage. A color proof will be sent to each student at no charge and with full information on purchasing options.
Campuswide Commencement Ceremony
College of Media graduates are invited to participate in the campuswide ceremony on Sunday, May 12, at 10:30 a.m. at the Assembly Hall. More information on the Campuswide Commencement ceremony.
Checklist for Participants
- Complete the Senior Survey and Register online for the College of Media Convocation ceremony by April 11
- Order regalia before the April 11 deadline and be aware of the distribution and return dates, times, and locations: Order regalia.
- Check-in for the College of Media ceremony at the Armory beginning at 11:30 a.m. on May 11, 2013. You MUST be checked in by 12:45 p.m. with all academic attire on in order to participate in the ceremony.
- Doctoral Candidates: Make arrangements for hooding at the College of Media Convocation ceremony. If you plan to attend the Campuswide Commencement ceremony, you must make arrangements as instructed on the Graduate College Commencement website and the Campuswide Commencement website.
- Make arrangements to participate in the Campuswide Commencement ceremony at 10:30 a.m. the Assembly Hall on Sunday, May 12. Make sure you have made those arrangements as instructed, including ordering regalia (required for participation) and tickets for guests.
