Otnes's research focuses on ritualistic consumption. She has published articles in the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Contemporary Ethnography, Journal of Advertising, Journal of Retailing, and Psychology and Marketing. She has published many book chapters and is co-author of "Cinderella Dreams: The Allure of the Lavish Wedding," with Elizabeth H. Pleck.
