Program for Research in the Humanities
IPRH was established in 1997 to promote interdisciplinary study in the humanities, arts, and social sciences. The IPRH grants fellowships to University of Illinois faculty and graduate students and to external post-doctoral scholars who work in yearlong symposia on thematic topics such as "Belief," "Cities," "The South," "Violence," "Difference" and "Beauty." The program coordinates and hosts an annual conference, typically during the spring, coordinated with the annual theme and featuring presentations by the IPRH fellows and invited speakers. The IPRH also provides financial support to faculty and graduate student reading groups, coordinates numerous lectures and panel discussions, sponsors exhibitions by campus and visiting artists in its lecture hall, and hosts a yearlong film series coordinated with the annual theme. - Center on
Democracy in a Multiracial Society
The center is a unique research institute organized around a commitment to the practice of democracy and equality within a changing multiracial U.S. society. A central aim of the center is to promote multiple and interdisciplinary approaches for examining the organization of society relating to the racially and ethnically diverse populations in the United States at the beginning of the 21st century, as well as on gender, class, age, sexuality, disability, religion and citizenship status. The center offers fellowships for faculty and graduate students to help bring scholars and activists to the center for periods of writing, research and public speaking. Fellows may come from the campus, the local community or from communities outside the state or nation. - Center
for Advanced Study
In keeping with the Center for Advanced Study mission to encourage creative achievement and scholarship by promoting intellectual vigor and diversity, these programs offer faculty time off from teaching to pursue a research or creative project, and also bring to campus a steady flow of world-class scholars and performing artists for public events and small group meetings. From here, you can access guidelines and applications for all of our programs. - Campus
Research Board
The research board provides support for individual or group research projects. This support is intended to help promising new faculty initiate their research on this campus; provide seed money for research in new directions; provide support for preliminary studies to improve the potential for attracting external research support; provide modest resources for important research in fields for which external support is either quite limited or unavailable; and provide matching funds sometimes required by external sponsors. - Center Global
Studies
Globalization — an ever-widening and deepening process of increasing interdependence of peoples and states — has turned the world upside down. Globalization puts the world at risk, yet opens new and exciting opportunities for vast and unprecedented improvements in the lives of Americans and populations everywhere. - Foreign
Language and Area Studies
FLAS allow graduate and professional students learn a language and culture relevant to their projected professional work yet not necessarily be expected to teach the language or be engaged in area studies. Academic-year FLAS recipients receive full tuition, mandatory fees, and a $15,000 stipend. Summer FLAS recipients receive tuition for a summer language program and a $2,500 stipend. - Academy
for Entrepreneurial Leadership
The Academy for Entrepreneurial Leadership offers entrepreneurial programs, services, and resources to faculty and graduate students on the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign campus. The academy is funded by a grant from the Kauffman Foundation with matching funds from the College of Business and other academic units, the University of Illinois, and private donors. The academy’s programs include:
Faculty Fellows
The Faculty Fellows Program is designed to increase the number and scope of courses and experiences in entrepreneurship available at the graduate level. The program serves to stimulate and nurture the entrepreneurial spirit in all students without regard to academic major.Graduate Scholars
Graduate students interested in developing entrepreneurship as a component of their research and teaching portfolio can apply to the Graduate Scholars Program for support. Whether you would like to conduct research in entrepreneurship, develop curriculum materials such as case studies, or pursue other scholarly activities to expand your understanding and appreciation of entrepreneurship, as a social, economic or intellectual endeavor, we are willing to consider your request for support. You may propose your own project, or talk with academy staff about research and curriculum endeavors that we believe would be of value.Opportunity Fund
Good ideas and entrepreneurial initiatives sometimes fall short of their true potential because of limited resources. The academy will provide funding for faculty and graduate students to facilitate and stimulate the development of entrepreneurial ingenuity on the Urbana campus. If you have a creative idea to expand the understanding and appreciation of entrepreneurship on campus, let us know.Center for Computing in Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences
CHASS aims to foster innovation by engaging humanists, artists and social scientists in sustained collaboration with colleagues in computer science, engineering and high performance computing and communications to identify, create and adapt computational tools that will accelerate research and education in the humanities, arts and social sciences.Critical Research Initiatives
The Critical Research Initiatives (CRI) provides support for broad multidisciplinary research themes that will position the campus to become a national or international leader in emerging areas of inquiry or scholarship. Applications are made online.
Funding databases
- IRIS
The Illinois Researcher Information Service database has more than 8,000 active federal and private funding opportunities in the sciences, social sciences, art and humanities. Users can search IRIS by agency, deadline date, keyword and other criteria. Most IRIS records contain live links to sponsor Web sites, electronic forms or electronic research administration (eRA) portals, so getting started on a proposal can be only a mouse-click away. - FundSource
Database
This database is designed to help behavioral and social scientists find research funding. It has been created with support from the National Science Foundation and the American Psychological Association. - GRAPES
database
The Graduate and Postdoctorate Extramural Support database catalogs major fellowships for which announcements have been received in the UCLA Graduate Division's Special Fellowships Office. GRAPES contains information on about 400 scholarships, fellowships, internships and awards for graduate students and postdoctoral fellowships.
