The Hiring Process
It is a long process to become a police officer. In the Champaign area, a hiring process is held once a year. The future police officers must first complete a mandatory orientation and a written exam. The people with the one hundred best scores on the exam are called back to take a physical agility test. The test is a timed obstacle course. These people also have an interview with the police commissioner. The scores of the two tests and the interview are then added together and a list is made. The board of commissioners is then allowed to choose any of the people from the top twelve names. The people chosen can be called back to be re-interviewed anytime in a one-year period. When a person is chosen they then must complete a psychological exam and a background check. If the person passes these tests then they may be hired. Once a person is hired they attend a one-week orientation. During this orientation they will receive their uniforms, guns, and other equipment. They also receive papers and manuals that they will need to review.Police Training Institute| Field Training Program| How To Become A Police Officer
